AECP Level 1 Seasonal Scene Building

This is my submission for Level 1 Seasonal Scene Building taught by Nichol Spohr. This class gave me so many ideas for creating some interesting and fun scenes!

Techniques and Design Principles

  • Mountain background with dimension by making the closer mountains a darker color
  • Using stencils to add an interesting background
  • Frames and borders to add interest to the scene
  • A circle “window” with a scene behind
  • Bright ink blending behind the dragon fly to create a focal point
  • Multiple die cuts for the dragon fly and foam tape to add dimension
  • Embellishments to add some shine

Steps

  1. First I stenciled the panel for the base using gray inks starting with the lightest color on top. I moved the stencil down and shifted it to make each layer of the mountains look a little different. The darkest color is in the front in order to give the mountains illusions of dimension.
  2. I then put a sheet of vellum over a panel of double sided adhesive sheet and cut it down to a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ panel.
  3. I cut the dragon fly out of vellum and brush gold cardstock.
  4. The body of the dragon fly is inked with the gray inks. I also added some detail the body with a gold pen.
  5. Next I glued the vellum and brushed gold cardstock together to just the body so that I could curl the wings up a bit for dimension.
  6. I then positioned the dragon fly where I wanted it on the card and cut a circle out.
  7. After that, I ink blended Citrus Burst, Chamomile, and Snapdragon inks to add gradient color to the cut out circle vellum.
  8. Next I peeled off the adhesive backing and placed it over the stenciled background.
  9. I did the same with the ink blending circle.
  10. Next I cut out a circle frame and adhered it over the circle to bring focus to the dragon fly.
  11. I then popped up the dragon fly with some foam squares.
  12. Next I added the sentiment using the stampwheel.
  13. I also trimmed the edges so that I could add a Brushed Gold frame.
  14. Finally I added some embellishments for a little bit of sparkle.

Supplies

I really enjoyed making this card and love how it came together. The dragon fly looks like it’s soaring to great heights to fulfill it’s dreams. 🙂
