AECP Level 1 Let It Shine and April 2024 Inspiration Challenge

Today I am sharing my submission for AECP Level 1 Let It Shine taught by Carissa Wiley. I really enjoyed this class as it got me thinking about so many possibilities for adding sparkle to my card designs. Her energy and passion is contagious! For this card I used several elements of shine without it being too over powering (if it’s even possible to have too much shine ðŸ˜€).

Supplies

  • Craft-A-Flower Sulfur Cosmos
  • Altenew Bold Bouquet Stamp Set
  • Altenew Nimbus, Snapdragon and Burnt Red Alcohol Inks
  • Altenew Antique Gold Embossing Powder
  • Altenew Brushed Gold Cardstock
  • Silver Foil
  • Yupo Paper
  • Black Card Stock

Techniques

  • I started with alcohol ink on Yupo paper as this in itself shines bright over the entire card.
  • The dark background and contrasting colors from the palette allows the bold orange/red flowers to pop and shine.
  • I also added silver foil over the top of the sticky areas of the Nimbus alcohol ink for a touch more shine and additional depth. It kind of reminds me of veins of silver in marble.
  • I cut the flower petals out of the panel made from the mix of Snapdragon and Burnt Red inks.
  • The gold brushed leaves then became the perfect embellishment for this card. I really like the Altenew gold brushed card stock for a softer shine.
  • Finally, the gold embossed sentiment on black cardstock provided an additional complement of shine.
  • I also added a thin black border around the card for an elegant finished look.

I used my Revlon Hair dryer on the cool setting and the Tim Holtz Ink Blower tool to move the ink around. If you like to have lots of control, alcohol ink may not be the medium for you. 🤣 You just have to go with the flow and let the beautiful patterns evolve. I also sprayed the panels with isopropyl alcohol from a mister to obtain additional dimension that looks like splatter in the ink.

I found that white glue did not hold the layers together because of the shiny paper and ink, but 527 glue worked perfectly. In the future I will also add a brad through the key holes for additional hold.

Color Palette

This beautiful color palette was inspired by the April 2024 Inspiration Challenge. I used Snapdragon, Burnt Red and Nimbus alcohol inks.

This was another terrific class and I’m very much looking forward to the next one! 😊
