This is my submission for Level 1 Irresistible Inking Techniques taught by the amazing Sara Naumann. Sara introduced a number of techniques with stamp pads and inks beyond the traditional stamping methods.Ā
Techniques and Design Principles
- Heat embossed the image to add some shine and dimension which also helped with keeping the painted ink within the outline.
- I used the Stampwheel for the larger image but used an acrylic block for the sentiment so that I don’t forget that skill š
- Used my glass mat for a palette and a #4 paintbrush to paint the image.
- Varying the pinks and blues (which made purple) for the flowers to add visual interest.
- Adding a little white with a Prismacolor white pencil for some highlights.
- Adding a little shine with a gold gel pen to the center of the flowers.
- Cutting up a larger image to create a new design.
- Flowers pointing towards and around the sentiment for a focal point.
- Popped up painted image for dimension.
- Added splatter with the blue ink for some additional texture.
- Black frame and white background for a dramatic effect.
Steps
1. Stamp the image with black obsidian ink on watercolor paper and emboss with clear embossing powder.
2. Paint the flowers with the inks using a palette or glass mat for the ink.
3. Fussy the the flowers as close as possible to the black embossed outline. I prefer this over a white edge but this is optional.Ā
4. Use a black sharpie or black alcohol marker to color around the edge for a finished look.
5. Highlight petals with a white Altenew or Prismacolor pencil.Ā
6. Cut up the image and arrange on a 4″ x 5 1/4″ panel leaving some white space for interest.
7. Stamp the sentiment. I used the Thank You from the Elegant Sayings.Ā
8. Popup the cut out flowers for additional dimension.
9. Add splatter. I used the Starlight to coordinate with the flowers.Ā
10. Adhere the panel to a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ panel or base card.Ā
11. Add embellishments.Ā

Absolutely fantabulous project! Great explanation too! Love the colors!
Thank you so much Erum! It was fun to use the ink in a non traditional way and to play with color. š
