AECP Level 1 Clean and Simple Boutique Card

This is my submission for Level 1 Clean and Simple Boutique Cards taught by the amazing Jennifer Rzasa! This one was a little bit of a challenge for me as I love to add layers and dimension, but I really enjoyed this. I found that a few embellishments, textured watercolor paper and a narrow gold frame still provided plenty interest for this card. 🙂 I am looking forward to making more Clean and Simple cards!

Techniques and Design Principles

  • White space around the image to keep it clean
  • I used heavy watercolor paper for added texture and dimension
  • Took my time painting to keep the image neat and tidy
  • Adding foil added some additional shine and interest
  • To keep the foil plate from shifting in the die cutting machine I used Altenew low adhesive purple tape
  • Added embellishments for a little dimension and to tie the sentiment and Peony to together in the overall design

Steps

1. Cut and score an A2 card base out of light pink heavy cardstock (5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″). I like to have a good sturdy base so I use cardstock that is at least 110lb.

2. Die cut the watercolor paper using a stitched die plate a little smaller than the A2 base.

3. Cut out a piece of foil cardstock 1/4″ smaller than the base.

4. Die cut the Celebrate sentiment out of gold foil cardstock.

5. Center the Whimsical Peony foil plate on the watercolor paper and tape it at the top like a hinge. Insert the foil underneath with the pretty side facing up over the watercolor paper (pretty side down on the foil plate). Run this through the hot foil machine.

6. I wanted the more textured side of the cardstock so mine didn’t foil every clean even with a shim so I painted over the top with Altenew gold metallic paint.

7. I then used the coordinating stencil as a guide to watercolor with Altenew Rubellite and Sunkissed Watercolor Brush markers.

8. Glue the foil and water color to the light pink base.

9. Add the celebrate sentiment.

8. Add embellishments.

Supplies

  • Altenew Watercolor Brush Markers – Spring Garden Set

  • Altenew Celebrate die from the Sweet Sentiments Die set
  • Altenew Metallic Watercolor 14 Pan Set
  • Gold foil cardstock

This was another fun card to make! What I really like about the AECP program is that I am inspired to try things that I wouldn’t normally venture out to do on my own. 🙂
